Special Issue: Alexithymia and Related Constructs

We are excited to share that an Alexithymia Special Issue is currently open in the Journal of Affective Disorders: "Alexithymia and Related Constructs: Transdiagnostic Relevance for Mental Health," guest edited by Dr. Irina Jarvers, Dr. David A. Preece, and Prof. James J. Gross.

We are looking for contributions that dig into emotion processing constructs like alexithymia, emotional awareness, and emotional granularity, and how they shape the development and treatment of psychopathology. There is growing evidence that emotion processing difficulties act as transdiagnostic mechanisms across depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and substance use disorders, and this issue is a chance to bring together perspectives that too often stay in separate silos.

If you are interested, you can send a one page expression of interest with a tentative title, a short outline of your proposed submission (max. 450 words), and author details and affiliations.

‍Expressions of interest are due by 31 July 2026, sent to Dr. Irina Jarvers at irina.jarvers@ukr.de. Selected authors will then be invited to submit full manuscripts, with a final deadline of 15 December 2026.
