Colloquium #11 Announcement

Dear ARIA members,

For our 11th colloquium, we are pleased to announce that Dr. Johannes Heekerens and Alper Karababa from the Charité Berlin, Germany will be presenting on October 2026 at 4 pm CEST (UTC+2) on the topic: "Alexithymia as a Predictor of Affective, Dissociative, and Cardiac States in a Clinical Sample".

‍Abstract:
According to the attention–appraisal model, individuals with higher trait alexithymia are less able to effectively process information about their own affective states. This impairment is thought to disrupt emotion regulation, contributing to higher daily negative affect and slower recovery following increases in negative affect. Similar patterns may emerge for dissociation, a psychopathological process closely linked to affective dysregulation. In this talk, Alper Karababa presents secondary analyses of ecological momentary assessment data from a clinical sample of 88 individuals with borderline personality disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, and dissociative disorders, examining whether alexithymia predicts affective, dissociative, and cardiac states in daily life. Johannes Heekerens will open with a brief introduction to dissociation.
